一碗成家,一汤传情

One bowl. One bond. One warm beginning.

A family that eats together, stays together. Three generations of one Teochew family have cooked herbal and turtle soup since 1946, and every table that joins us eats the way we do: slowly, warmly, together.

Our Family

一起吃饭,一家团圆 A family that eats together, stays together

This has always been a family eating together. The family came from Fengtang Xiang, Chao'an, and settled in Singapore. After the war, founder Tan Ah Sai cooked to feed the workers rebuilding the city, and shaped his own herbal turtle soup. Every bowl he sold from his shoulder-pole pushcart fed someone far from their own family table.

The name 生成 came first, meaning to prosper and to grow; the family surname 陳 was added later. The business was registered in 1946. Husband and wife cooked side by side, children grew up in the kitchen, and in the 1980s the second generation brought in individual claypots, a first in Singapore. The house settled in Geylang in 1992, and the family table simply grew bigger.

Today the third generation keeps the same recipe and the same slow fire. Brothers, sisters, parents and children still work under one roof, and when you sit down with us, you eat the way this family always has: one pot, shared warmth, everyone together.

  1. 1927

    Across the sea from Chao'an

The family leaves Fengtang Xiang (凤塘乡), Chao'an, for Singapore. Young Tan Ah Sai, aged eleven, makes this island his home.

  2. 1940s

A soup shaped after the war

Tan Ah Sai cooks to feed the workers rebuilding the city, and shapes his own herbal turtle soup. He sells it bowl by bowl from a shoulder-pole pushcart, then saves for a tricycle.

  3. 1946

    陳生成 is registered

The business is formally registered. The name 生成, to prosper and to grow, came first; the family surname was added later.

  4. 1973

    The second generation steps in

Tan Khar Seng takes over the fire at twenty, supporting eight siblings, with his wife Tay Ah Lek cooking through the night.

  5. 1986

    The claypot, a Singapore first

Individual claypot service arrives, the dish that would become the house signature.

  6. 1992

    Home in Geylang

The house settles at Lorong Bachok, where the same slow fire still burns today.

  7. 2000s

    The third generation joins

Vivian, Joanne and Allan come into the family business, and the fire is passed on once more.

  8. 2026

Eighty years, and a second home

The house turns eighty, and opens a second home at Great World.
